With Captain Sean Doe, Dino, Urban Commando and special guest Xander Schloss of Circle Jerks, this Hootenanny was indeed a special one. Do they have alter egos? Who doesn't? A small sampling of the many Buddhists and other attendees outside of the Dalai Lama's teaching event. Due to press restrictions, I was not allowed to photograph (not even one!) inside the main hall. There were several "official" photographers inside, however, capturing images perhaps for monastery fund-raising purposes.

H.H. Tenzin Gyatso, the XIV Dalai Lama of Tibet, speaks to reporters during a press conference in Long Beach, CA on Friday, September 25th, 2009. Many SoCal media sources did not attend the press conference, perhaps due to the refusal of the sponsoring monastery to allow press into the main auditorium during official teachings. At first, no one had any questions, so the Dalai Lama simply started speaking on Compassion and understanding (with good reason!). I wish I'd asked something. KCAL 9, OC Register, Zuma (me), a small Tibetan magazine and Vietnamese new source were the only reporters present. And he's a world leader and Nobel Laureate!

May Day 2010

Thousands of people marched in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 1st 2010 to celebrate the International Day of the Worker and protest the recent Arizona anti-illegal immigrant law. Led my Cardinal Roger Mahoney, Mayor Villaragosa, Gloria Estefan and other civil rights activists, the people marched through downtown LA, ending the day with a rally of music, speeches, agent provacatuers and many, many American flags.
